Hailing from Camden South Carolina spawned August
29th 1972, sharing the same birth date as the likes of GG Allin
and Michael Jackson, a Catholic boy of Scottish/Irish decent, the
year Iggy and The Stooges Raw Power confused the masses, Dave Glass
Riddick aka "Dave Glass" was untuned to the world. A wandering,
punk rock, latchkey, Ritalin kid turning 16 kicked out of a broken
home in the late 1980's roaming up and down the east coast, a nomad
seemingly going nowhere fast. Moving now more than 35 times has
acquired job descriptions from metal fabricator, nightshift plastic
plant monitor, repoman, pizza delivery guy, landscaper, mechanics
asst., demolition man, painter, ice cream man, pre press operator,
shipping manager, screen printer, electricians asst., graphic designer,
illustrator, and drummer for countless music projects since High
School in the late 80's. Dave now resides as a "Yankee Trader" in
Philadelphia since 1992, with a brief stint in Brooklyn NY scraping
by selling art prints on Bedford Ave out of a shopping cart in the
summer of 2002.
Dave Glass has been spewing out raucous punk art since 1985 scribbling
on skateboards, school desks, and spray painting t-shirts. His first
band name and logo was created in 1987 in summer school, drumming
for east coast hardcore punk, skate rock outfit Sap Green. Coined
the first "Punk Pin Up Artist" by Carbon 14 magazine in
2002 since Mr Glass' subject matter featured punk/goth girls since
the early 1990's.
Glass has remained an underground artist designing for numerous
clients like The Avengers, GBH, New York Rel-x, Electric Frankenstein,
and The Strychnine Babies. Intoduced to the trade of screenprinting
in 2004 has since produced by hand 10s of 1000s units of licensed
tattoo lifestyle clothing and merchandise for bands such as The
Ramones, GG Allin, New York Dolls, The Stooges, Johnny Thunders,
Richard Hell, and Murphys Law to name a few.
Dave Glass' art can be seen at The
Toothless Cat in Philadelphia, where he also held court in the
catbox studio for a year 2009-10, and Sexy
Art Gallery in Amsterdam. His work has been featured in books
such as The Art Of Modern Rock, Electric Frankenstein High Energy
Rock N Roll Poster Art, Aphrodisia II Art Of The Female Form, and
numerous publications and fanzines as Varla Magazine, 15th Precinct
(AUS), You're Not Alone (NL), Punk Rock Fanzine (DE), Carbon 14,
Devolution (UK), and No Front Teeth (UK). |
